SK Telecom Strengthens Legal Team... Former Judge Jeong Jae-heon Joins

[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgi Na Jo] Following KT, SK Telecom has also strengthened its legal team by recruiting a former Seoul Central District Court chief judge as an executive.

According to industry sources on the 6th, SK Telecom established a Legal Group 2 responsible for legal reviews in new business areas such as media, security, and commerce, and appointed Jeong Jaeheon, former chief judge of the Seoul Central District Court, as the group leader. Jeong previously served as the Director of the Court Administration Office’s Information Management Bureau.

This recruitment is interpreted as a move aligned with the dual OS system split into the mobile network operator (MNO) division and the new business division. The existing legal group leader, Park Yongju, will handle legal affairs for the MNO division, while former judge Jeong will oversee legal matters for the new business division. With ongoing issues such as cable TV mergers and acquisitions (M&A), it is expected that compliance management aligned with regulatory authorities will be further accelerated in the new business sector.

Prior to SK Telecom, KT also strengthened its legal team. They recruited lawyer Ahn Sangdon, former chief prosecutor of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors’ Office, as the head of the legal office, and lawyer Kim Heegwan, former director of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, as the compliance committee chair.
