Democratic Party Gwangju Branch Launches 'Fair Election Promotion Team' and Begins Full-Scale Activities

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan City Party of the Democratic Party of Korea (Chairman Song Gap-seok) announced on the 5th that it held its first meeting and officially began activities with the launch of the "21st National Assembly Election Democratic Party Fair Election Promotion Team."

The "Democratic Party Fair Election Promotion Team" appointed Park Sang-ho, Senior Vice Chairman of the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party, as the head of the promotion team, and was composed of one deputy head per electoral district and a spokesperson (Shim Hyun-joo, Director of General Affairs).

They will work together with the already established "Election Fraud Monitoring Teams" in each campaign.

A promotion team official stated, "Amid expectations of lower voter turnout than usual due to the impact of COVID-19, indiscriminate illegal election campaigning not only causes inconvenience to voters but can also lead to voter apathy and a decline in turnout. We plan to operate with the purpose of monitoring and preventing illegal election activities and leading by example in strictly adhering to election laws during campaigns."

He added, "We will cooperate with the election fraud monitoring teams of each candidate's campaign to monitor whether rival candidates comply with election laws and will also make every effort to support Democratic Party candidates in adhering to election laws."

Furthermore, he said, "All candidates of the Democratic Party will take the lead in conducting fair and clean election campaigns by strictly complying with election laws as well as COVID-19 prevention guidelines. We will do our best to prevent controversies and disputes related to election laws in advance and to support candidates' lawful election campaigns."
