[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Amid the employment freeze caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), Korea Southern Power Co. is launching the selection of experiential interns through online interviews.
On the 5th, Korea Southern Power announced that it plans to move up the selection of experiential interns, originally scheduled to hire 82 people in the second half of this year, to the first half, and increase the number of hires to 110.
Korea Southern Power intends to overcome difficulties such as the challenge of gathering personnel due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19 by introducing the first non-face-to-face recruitment system among public enterprises.
The non-face-to-face recruitment process consists of document screening and interview evaluation. Evaluators review documents using a computer system in separate rooms without mutual contact. After passing the document screening, intern applicants undergo a self-introduction video evaluation followed by a real-time online video interview.
Efforts were also made to ensure fairness and transparency in the recruitment process. Korea Southern Power developed a dedicated online interview program (K-Interview) and plans to reduce trial and error by pre-announcing manuals on identity verification procedures and contingency plans for communication failures.
Shin Jeong-sik, president of Korea Southern Power, said, "Due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19, we conceived non-face-to-face recruitment as part of social distancing," adding, "We will actively strive to help job seekers who have been suffering from a recruitment gap in public institutions for several months."
