[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] On the 5th, which is Arbor Day and Sunday, a sudden cold snap is expected to cause morning temperatures to drop below freezing, especially in inland areas.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 4th, the lowest morning temperature on the 5th is forecasted to be between -5 and 4 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs ranging from 10 to 17 degrees Celsius. Morning temperatures are expected to fall below freezing mainly in the central inland regions, with some areas in northern Gyeonggi and Yeongseo in Gangwon Province possibly experiencing temperatures below -5 degrees Celsius.
The KMA issued a cold wave advisory at 10 p.m. on the 4th for the mountainous areas of Gangwon and northern inland Gangwon, forecasting that temperatures in Gangwon Province could drop more than 10 degrees compared to the previous day. This cold snap is expected to continue until the morning of the 6th, then temperatures will gradually rise from the daytime of the 7th, easing the cold.
The KMA forecasted, "The entire country will be clear, but the atmosphere will be very dry with strong winds." Especially on the Jeolla West Coast, where a strong wind advisory has been issued, winds are expected to blow very strongly until the morning, with average speeds of 35-60 km/h (10-16 m/s) and maximum gusts exceeding 70 km/h (20 m/s), and strong winds are also expected in other regions.
Fine dust levels are expected to be generally 'moderate' due to good atmospheric dispersion. However, in the Yeongnam region, the influence of yellow dust that flowed in the previous day is expected to cause temporarily 'unhealthy' levels in the morning.
