[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The Democratic Party of Korea launched a focused campaign in the Seoul and Gyeonggi metropolitan areas on the first weekend after the official start of the election campaign on the 4th.
Lee Nak-yeon, Chair of the COVID-19 National Crisis Overcoming Committee, senior lawmakers' campaign teams, and former Presidential Chief of Staff Lim Jong-seok all toured the metropolitan area simultaneously.
At 9 a.m. that day, Chair Lee conducted a vehicle campaign in front of Myeongnyun Saemaeul Geumgo in Myeongnyun-dong. At this event, he delivered a message about overcoming COVID-19.
Chair Lee emphasized, "COVID-19 has temporarily halted all our daily lives," adding, "There are two fronts before us. One is the fight against the unprecedented and bizarre infectious disease called COVID-19, and the other is the war to heal the economic contraction and social wounds caused by COVID-19."
In particular, Chair Lee addressed his electoral rival, Future United Party leader Hwang Kyo-ahn, stating, "Even if we have different thoughts, I will not hate him," and "We are in a position where we must cooperate to save the country anyway."
Meanwhile, the 'Latte Campaign Team,' formed by senior lawmakers who are not running in the general election, including Won Hye-young, Baek Jae-hyun, and Kang Chang-il, will campaign in support of candidates Heo Jong-sik in Dong-gu and Michuhol-gap, Nam Young-hee in Dong-gu and Michuhol-eul, and Jo Taek-sang in Jung-gu, Ganghwa, and Ongjin.
