[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Gokseong-gun, Jeonnam announced on the 3rd that it will reduce water and sewage charges by 50% to help small business owners who are struggling due to the impact of COVID-19 overcome the crisis.
The reduction targets small business owners with workplaces in the region, specifically those whose water and sewage charges are billed for commercial, office, or bathhouse use.
The reduction period will be temporarily applied for three months from the April to June billing periods, excluding residential, government office, public institution, and fixed-rate charges by category.
The county expects about 1,000 small business establishments to benefit from the reduction.
In terms of amount, based on the March billing standard, about 21 million KRW per month, totaling approximately 63 million KRW for the three-month reduction period, is expected to be waived.
Notably, to ease the burden on small business owners, the charges will be uniformly reduced based on the March 2020 rates without requiring a separate application.
A county official said, “We hope this will provide some support to the residents who are facing great difficulties due to the sharp decline in production and consumption activities caused by COVID-19.”
