Ijen Academy Computer School, Why You Should Learn Java, Python, and Big Data R Programming Languages

Despite the ongoing economic downturn and employment instability caused by the novel COVID-19 virus, there is a growing determination to enhance professional skills and increase individual work competitiveness. The field of computer programming exemplifies this trend, especially as companies continuously recruit skilled professionals due to advancements in Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies.

Looking at corporate job postings on recruitment portal sites, basic requirements often include proficiency in Java, Python, and big data programming. Why are these three programming languages specifically sought after? Understanding the characteristics of these three programs reveals the reasons for learning them.

Java is the fundamental language for those beginning programming. It is highly versatile and is learned to become a web programmer who builds websites or an app programmer who develops mobile applications. Often called the "basic web language," over 80% of people in the computer programming industry learn Java, making it a significant part of the field. To become a web or app programmer, coding skills are essential. Through programs like HTML, CSS, jQuery, JavaScript, and React JS, one can develop frontend capabilities that create the user-facing screens, while Java enables backend development by building servers.

Python, a programming language easy even for beginners, can be understood as a pre-written plan that tells the computer what to do. When a program is created to instruct how to process large amounts of data, the computer executes the plan exactly as written. Python’s syntax is simpler and more consistent than C or Java. It is highly compatible with web servers, hacking tools, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, and big data R programs, making it very practical. Although Excel’s VBA can automate data organization tasks, it falls short in analyzing diverse customer patterns, which has led to the rising importance of big data implementation skills.

To manage big data, the R program is used. It has become a major topic as companies like Facebook, Twitter, and Google utilize this open-source statistical analysis tool to start data management. It collects various data, analyzes it, extracts it in formats desired by companies, and presents it through visualized graphs, making it convenient. Since anyone can generate statistical data without being a programming, mathematics, or statistics expert, companies build diverse data management systems using the R programming language.

So, which should I learn first: Java, Python, or big data?

If you want to become a programmer, Java is the basic language and is recommended to learn first. After that, you can choose based on the purpose of the programming you want to create. It is wise to learn programming closely related to your goals and what you want to build with the skills you acquire.

IT programming language education can be accessed through government-funded free training programs. These programs are supported by the Ministry of Employment and Labor to partially cover training costs for job seekers and employees to enhance their job competitiveness. The National Strategic Industry Training and Employment Success Package Type 1 offer 100% free education, while Type 2 and the National Tomorrow Learning Card for employed and unemployed individuals provide up to 85% government-funded free training.

Additionally, the previously separate unemployment and employment Tomorrow Learning Cards have been integrated into the National Tomorrow Learning Card, simplifying the government-funded free education system and increasing benefits, with individual training costs supported up to 3 million to 5 million KRW. To obtain the National Tomorrow Learning Card, applicants can apply through the HRD-Net job training portal website or visit the local employment support center.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, Ijen Academy Computer School has won the Education Service Brand Award for four consecutive years and operates 16 campuses nationwide, including Gangnam, Sinnonhyeon Station, Yongsan-gu, Gwanak-gu, Pangyo in Gyeonggi-do, Suwon, Jongno, Sinchon, Nowon, Sangbong, Dangsan, Songpa, Anyang, Uijeongbu, Guri, Ilsan, Ansan, Seongnam Bundang, Seongnam Moran, Gimpo, and Jeonju.

The IT information technology field is one that continuously adopts new technologies and learns through trial and error while dreaming of the future. As autonomous vehicles, Internet of Things, and augmented reality technologies are developed daily to bring convenience to life, it is hoped that individuals will grow into talents who lead new technological civilizations with innovative thinking and open minds.
