Closure decided for a total of 10 days in April, including weekends and public holidays
Measure in response to the sharp decline in tourists to Jeju due to COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Shilla Duty Free Jeju Branch announced on the 2nd that it has decided to close on weekends and public holidays this month.
The closure days include 8 weekend days and 2 public holidays: the 21st National Assembly election day (April 15) and Buddha’s Birthday (April 30), totaling 10 days. The reason Shilla Duty Free Jeju Branch, which had been operating year-round without holidays, decided to close is due to the sharp decrease in tourists visiting Jeju Island caused by COVID-19.
Until last year, more than 3,000 people per day entered Jeju Island through Jeju International Airport, but recently, all international flights to Jeju have been suspended except for one temporary flight operated once a week by Spring Airlines between China and Jeju.
The Jeju branch has already shortened its business hours twice. After a confirmed COVID-19 case visited the Jeju branch, it temporarily closed and reopened on February 7, shortening its business hours by 30 minutes from the original schedule, and on March 12, it further reduced business hours by an additional hour.
The timing for normalizing operations will be reviewed later depending on the progress of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the Jeju Airport branch is also temporarily closed due to the suspension of most international flights to Jeju.
