[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan District, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Samho) announced on the 2nd that it will promote policies to support the independent living of people with disabilities.
The district plans to invest 100 million KRW secured through selection in the "2020 Community Care Contest Project" hosted by Gwangju City.
Community care is a policy that integrates housing, medical care, rehabilitation, and other services to enable citizens in need of care to live in the community while enjoying welfare services tailored to their needs.
The district intends to promote various projects supporting the independent living of people with disabilities who reside in facilities or are on waiting lists for admission and have the will to live independently.
Specifically, Gwangsan District plans projects that connect public, private, and academic local resources to provide housing support such as "Experience Homes" and "Independent Living Houses (tentative name)," as well as support for daytime activities, vocational skill development training, and health programs.
Kim Samho, Mayor of Gwangsan District, said, "This contest selection has provided an opportunity to utilize the welfare infrastructure we have built in the community," and added, "We will create a new Gwangsan-type welfare model for people with disabilities that aligns with the government's policy of downsizing facilities and deinstitutionalization."
