Jangseong-gun 'Hwangryonggang Gildongmu Flower Road Festival' Canceled

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Gilsu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 2nd that it will cancel the ‘Jangseong Hwangryonggang (洪) Gildongmu Flower Road Festival’ that was scheduled to be held this spring.

The ‘Jangseong Hwangryonggang (洪) Gildongmu Flower Road Festival’ (hereafter Gildongmu Flower Road Festival) is a spring flower festival that adds the ‘Hwangryonggang Flower Road’ to the 20-year history of the Jangseong Hong Gil-dong Festival.

It successfully kicked off last May, recording the highest number of visitors in the history of Jangseong-gun’s spring festivals with 240,000 attendees.

The county has been steadily preparing to present an upgraded Gildongmu Flower Road Festival this year, with enhanced scenic displays to maximize the beauty of Hwangryonggang, doubling the festival period, and developing differentiated content for visitors compared to last year.

However, as the COVID-19 situation prolonged, the county decided to cancel the festival considering the opinions of the festival preparation committee, Jangseong County Council, and local public opinion.

Yoo Doo-seok, the mayor of Jangseong-gun, said, “We judged that we could not forcibly proceed with the festival in a situation where the safety of residents and tourists is threatened, so we inevitably decided to cancel it. Since visitors are expected to continue coming to the Hwangryonggang Flower Road created for the festival preparation, we will devise detailed quarantine measures.”

Jangseong-gun plans to thoroughly carry out facility disinfection, hygiene management, and maintenance in the Hwangryonggang area. In addition, it will focus on revitalizing the local economy by encouraging consumer activities.
