[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] Kyobo Book Centre announced that starting from the 2nd, the 'Kyobo Handwriting 2019' font will be distributed for free through the Kyobo Book Centre website.
The Kyobo Handwriting 2019 font is based on the handwriting of a 12-year-old child who won the top prize in the children's category among 6,298 entries submitted to the 5th Kyobo Handwriting Contest last year.
Yoon Design Group participated in the production and created the font through about three months of digitization work. Yoon Design Group focused on preserving the child's unadorned and lively characteristics while enhancing readability and legibility so that the digital font could be widely used.
To express the unique freedom of handwriting, the 'Kyobo Handwriting 2019' font was designed with variable character widths, and the visual baseline was set slightly above center to match the lively and vibrant impression.
Additionally, the font captures the lovable handwriting feel of a 12-year-old child by rhythmically reflecting natural line spacing, character size, and margins. In particular, the start and end of strokes are rounded to represent the ink clumping of a sign pen, and stroke thickness varies depending on stroke direction, adding to the natural feel of handwriting.
The 'Kyobo Handwriting 2019' font can be downloaded for free from the Kyobo Book Centre page and can be used in various fields such as printed materials, web, mobile, advertisements, and video content.
