[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] Jeon, CEO of Tree J Company and mother of actor Jang Geunseok, has been indicted on charges of offshore tax evasion.
The Criminal Division 13 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Oh Jeonghee) announced on the 1st that Jeon was indicted without detention on the 30th of last month on charges including violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (tax evasion).
Under the principle of corporate liability, Tree J Company was also indicted for violating the Tax Offenses Punishment Act.
Jeon is accused of evading taxes by failing to report tens of billions of won in income, withdrawing or using earnings made by her son and affiliated entertainer Jang Geunseok through overseas activities in places such as Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, Jang Geunseok has gained public recognition by appearing in various TV programs such as the dramas "Daebak," "Candy in My Ear," and "Switch - Change the World." He is currently serving as a social service agent for alternative military service and is known to be without an agency at present.
