Chonnam National University Extends Remote Classes Until the 24th

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chonnam National University has decided to extend remote classes for an additional three weeks.

According to Chonnam National University on the 1st, the remote classes originally scheduled to end on the 3rd will be extended until the 24th due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Depending on the situation, the remote class period may be shortened or further extended.

However, for small graduate school classes where in-person instruction is unavoidable, exceptions will be allowed only after obtaining consent from enrolled students and undergoing strict review and deliberation processes.

In such cases, students must comply with preventive measures such as maintaining social distancing (2m), wearing masks, and using hand sanitizer, and classroom disinfection and student health conditions must also be monitored.

Additionally, for courses difficult to conduct remotely, such as laboratory practice courses and major practical courses, the university will actively consider intensive supplementary sessions after the end of regular courses, and seek to change the evaluation method from relative grading to absolute grading.

Furthermore, professors are encouraged to actively use video materials or real-time video classes rather than relying on assignments, as online remote classes are prolonged.

Park Bokjae, Dean of Academic Affairs, stated, “Considering students’ right to learn and the safety of all members, we are adjusting the academic schedule and revising related academic regulations and rules. Despite the tight situation, Chonnam National University is doing its best to ensure there are no disruptions in academic management.”
