[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Min Jun-young] Hollywood veteran actor Andrew Jack, who appeared in 'Star Wars,' 'The Avengers,' and 'Thor: Ragnarok,' has died from complications while being treated for COVID-19. The news of Jack's death has filled Hollywood with waves of mourning.
Foreign media including the UK's BBC reported on the 31st (local time) that Jack passed away from complications while receiving treatment for COVID-19 at a hospital on the outskirts of London that morning. According to Jack's spokesperson, "Jack's wife was in quarantine in Australia due to COVID-19, so she was unable to be by his side at the time of his passing."
The status of the funeral is also uncertain. His wife and dialect coach, Gabrielle Rogers, said on Twitter that "Jack was diagnosed with COVID-19 two days ago" and "he peacefully passed away as if surrounded by family."
Until recently, Jack was working as a dialect coach on the Robert Pattinson-led film 'The Batman.' He also collaborated on Robert Downey Jr.'s 'Sherlock Holmes' (2009), participated in 'The Avengers' and 'Thor: Ragnarok,' and worked on 80 films since 1982. He solidified his position in the film industry by also acting in the 'Star Wars' sequels 'The Last Jedi' and 'The Force Awakens.'
Greg Grunberg, who appeared with him in 'Star Wars,' mourned his death, saying he was "one of the kindest people." JJ Abrams, director of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens,' also paid tribute, saying, "He was a wonderful dialect coach to us," and "I send my condolences to his family and friends." Additionally, British actor Billy Boyd said, "He had the best stories and always enjoyed listening to others. He will be missed," as waves of tribute continue throughout Hollywood.
