[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seul-gi] On April 1st, April Fools' Day, as posts claiming that the Seoraksan Shaking Rock had fallen spread mainly through online communities, Seoraksan National Park clarified, "The Seoraksan Shaking Rock is intact."
On that day, Seoraksan National Park posted on its official Facebook page, "The fake news even reached 2nd place in real-time search rankings on portal sites," adding, "The Seoraksan Shaking Rock is always firmly in its place."
They continued, "Following 2019, it is again ranking high in searches this year. We have also received many inquiry calls from visitors concerned about Seoraksan and the Shaking Rock."
Finally, Seoraksan National Park stated, "But rest assured. Such a thing will never happen."
The rumor about the Seoraksan Shaking Rock falling was an April Fools' prank that spread mainly through online communities and social networking services (SNS).
The post described foreign tourists who visited the Shaking Rock. After finishing sunrise sightseeing at 5 a.m. that day, they toured the Shaking Rock and, following the guide's words that "no matter how much you shake this rock, it only shakes but does not fall," they pushed the rock with all their might, causing it to fall.
As the post rapidly spread, it is reported that inquiries were made to related organizations such as Sokcho City and the police station.
