SKB Set-Top Box Wins Red Dot Design Award 2020 Main Prize

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] SK Broadband's ‘AI 2 Set-top Box’ received the main prize in the product design category at the ‘Red Dot Design Award 2020’.

The Red Dot Design Award, along with the ‘iF Design Award’ and the ‘IDEA Award’, is known as one of the world's top three design awards. It is hosted by the Design Center of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany and evaluates the functionality, aesthetics, and originality of various industrial products. Since its inception in 1955, this year’s Red Dot Design Award received over 6,500 entries from 60 countries.

Launched in July last year, the ‘AI 2 Set-top Box’ was recognized for its originality with a sleek stereo speaker-style design and a front appearance that seems to look at the user. The installation of rich stereo speakers and four microphones, along with the introduction of ‘beamforming’ technology to enhance AI voice functionality, was also cited as a reason for this award.

Additionally, SK Broadband’s next-generation product series, including routers, dongle-type set-top boxes, and AI voice controllers, received the ‘Finalist Award’ and ‘Gold Award’ respectively at the ‘Pinup Design Award’ and the ‘Asia Design Prize’ for their wireless technology and smooth curved designs that fit anywhere in the home.

Product Tribe Leader Lee Sang-beom stated, “This award confirms that SK Broadband’s set-top boxes are recognized on the global stage for both design and functionality,” and added, “We will continue to provide services that satisfy our customers.”
