[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Electrical Safety Corporation announced on the 31st that it has officially launched facility safety support activities for the 21st National Assembly general election scheduled for the 15th.
Since last month, the corporation has established special electrical safety measures in preparation for the election. It will conduct a full inspection of approximately 18,000 polling stations and counting centers nationwide, including about 3,500 early voting locations.
Starting from the 3rd, alongside the full inspection, a second verification inspection will be conducted on facilities found to be non-compliant during the first inspection.
To this end, the corporation will operate a comprehensive electrical safety situation room at its headquarters and organize emergency dispatch standby teams at 60 branch offices nationwide until the completion of voting and counting.
Additionally, on election day, the 15th, in preparation for power outage situations, on-site standby personnel will be dispatched to counting centers upon request from regional election commissions.
President Cho Seongwan stated, "Since this election is being held amid various difficulties such as the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), we will make every effort to ensure the safety of voting and counting facilities so that the public has no concerns."
