[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Kim Jong-in, the General Election Committee Chairman of the United Future Party, said on the 31st during a visit to support candidates in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, "I believe that the level of our people, especially our voters living in the three Gangnam districts, is higher in knowledge and their ability to acquire information is excellent compared to anyone else in the Republic of Korea."

He mentioned, "Many people are worried about the election because the mistakes made by this government over the past three years have been overshadowed by the coronavirus situation, but I do not have the slightest worry about that."

Regarding this election, he claimed, "It is the day to decide whether our country can truly return to a nation where ordinary people can think with common sense."

He strongly criticized income-led growth and job creation policies. Chairman Kim said, "What the president said in his inaugural speech was that he would create a country that Korea had never experienced before, and it really became such a country," adding, "What do ordinary people think? The current public sentiment in our country is that we must never experience such a country again."

On the response to COVID-19, he said, "At first, there was confusion. It was as if the coronavirus situation would end in a few days, and optimism was expressed. On the day when that optimism was expressed with laughter, the number of confirmed cases in our country sharply increased."

Chairman Kim stated, "I have no doubt that the United Future Party can take control of the National Assembly in this general election," and added, "Especially, the voters living in the three Gangnam districts of Seoul clearly understand this better than anyone else, so I am confident that the three candidates will achieve overwhelming victories."

Joining the support visit that day were Tae Gu-min, candidate for Seoul Gangnam-gap, Park Jin, candidate for Gangnam-eul, and Yoo Kyung-jun, candidate for Gangnam-byeong. Before joining the United Future Party, Kim Jong-in had called Tae's nomination a "national disgrace" in a media interview, and Tae had responded by saying it was a "statement like stabbing a knife."
