Restricted Area, Uicheon Cherry Blossom Path Construction Section (Sinchanggyo~Ssanghangyo) and Walking Trail (Beon 2~3-dong)
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Amid the wave of festival cancellations nationwide due to the impact of COVID-19, Gangbuk-gu (District Mayor Park Gyeom-su) is restricting access to the cherry blossom path along the Uicheon Stream until the petals fall.
This measure is part of social distancing efforts to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and serves as a follow-up to the cancellation of the 'Uicheon Stream Cherry Blossom Festival.' Despite the event being canceled, it was anticipated that many people would visit to enjoy spring during the cherry blossom blooming period.
The restricted area covers a total of 2.66 km, including the cherry blossom path section from Sinchanggyo Bridge to Ssanghangyo Bridge and the walking trail starting near the Beon 2-dong Community Center, areas where crowding is expected.
The district is strengthening disinfection measures along Uicheon Stream and conducting public announcements through the river's audio warning system and electronic display boards. These announcements provide guidance on the restricted blooming areas and appeal to residents to participate in the 'Pause for a moment' campaign.
Earlier, on the 28th, access control lines and informational banners were installed at river entrances, and patrols of the temporarily closed areas have been intensified.
The cherry blossom festival is one of the 'Local Festival Promotion Projects' held annually by each neighborhood, and this year it was scheduled to be held in Beon 3-dong but was completely canceled.
Park Gyeom-su, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, stated, “Active practice of social distancing is the best quarantine measure for myself, my family, and all of us,” and added, “We ask for your understanding that the restriction of access to the cherry blossom path along Uicheon Stream is an unavoidable measure to block the spread of COVID-19.”
