Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok Checks Wando County's COVID-19 Response Situation

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, visited the Wando County Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and the Wando Passenger Ferry Terminal consecutively to inspect the COVID-19 quarantine system and the progress of social distancing measures.

According to Jeonnam Province on the 30th, Governor Kim said at the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, “Wando County has proactively responded by issuing an administrative order banning weekend operations of fishing boat passengers to protect the safety of local residents despite economic losses to the region,” and urged, “Please actively promote the high-intensity ‘social distancing’ campaign to overcome COVID-19.”

He also emphasized, “On the 27th, Jeonnam Province issued a special administrative order for overseas arrivals, mandating voluntary reporting from all overseas entrants,” adding, “Please thoroughly manage all overseas arrivals, not only from Europe, and actively promote this to residents.”

Governor Kim then visited the Wando Passenger Ferry Terminal, received a report on the terminal’s own infectious disease prevention measures, and encouraged the efforts of the ferry terminal staff.

He stated, “So far, the island areas, considered safe zones from COVID-19, have not experienced the spread of infection,” and added, “Infection control measures such as tourist restrictions must be faithfully implemented.”

Meanwhile, Jeonnam Province is jointly inspecting the progress of high-intensity social distancing implementation by cities and counties, as well as compliance with facility and industry-specific regulations, in cooperation with the police and fire departments.

In particular, the province is actively promoting the ‘social distancing’ campaign through banners and posters at major multi-use facilities, as well as via SNS and village broadcasts.

On the 27th, Wando County issued an administrative order banning entry to control the boarding of external tourists to four towns and townships, including Cheongsando Island, during the weekend.
