Moroccan Foreign Minister Expresses Intent to Purchase Korean Medical Supplies... Korea-Morocco Foreign Ministers' Phone Call


[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the morning of the 30th, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha held a phone conversation at the request of Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Foreign Minister, exchanging views on bilateral cooperation measures to respond to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).


Minister Kang requested the Moroccan government’s special attention and cooperation to ensure that necessary support is provided to Korean nationals staying in Morocco, including some who wish to return home. In response, Minister Bourita promised active support for this matter.


The Moroccan government completely suspended flights starting from the 16th (local time) due to the rapid spread of COVID-19.


Minister Bourita particularly praised Korea’s quarantine capabilities, such as diagnostic testing capacity, in response to COVID-19, expressed willingness to purchase Korean-made diagnostic kits and other medical supplies, and requested cooperation. He also asked Minister Kang to maintain close cooperation between the two countries in this regard.


Minister Kang replied that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would also make efforts to provide maximum support for the items requested by Morocco, considering the domestic situation and available capacity.


Minister Kang also emphasized the importance of international cooperation to overcome COVID-19, and Minister Bourita conveyed the intention to strengthen cooperation with Korea in responding to COVID-19.
