[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Gilsu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, is attracting attention for exporting rice cultivated in the region to countries such as Russia and the United States for five consecutive years.
According to Jangseong-gun on the 30th, the recently integrated Jangseong-gun RPC exported 18 tons of Jomyeong No.1 rice to Russia. With this, Jangseong rice has recorded exports to Russia for five consecutive years, and the total overseas export volume has reached 256 tons so far.
Since 2015, Jangseong-gun has been distributing Jomyeong No.1 to farmers. It has the advantages of good taste, strong resistance to pests and diseases, and being an early maturing variety, allowing it to target the new rice market before Chuseok.
It is used as a raw material for NH Nonghyup's processed instant rice product ‘Soban’, and along with Saechungmu, the main variety of Jeollanam-do, it was selected as a ‘2021 Public Stockpiling Purchase Variety’.
Yoo Doo-seok, the governor of Jangseong-gun, said, “We will continue to enhance the competitiveness of Jangseong ‘Jomyeong No.1’ rice through thorough quality control” and “We will develop it as a strategic variety that captivates the taste buds of not only domestic consumers but also people around the world.”
