[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Former Liberty Korea Party leader Hong Joon-pyo criticized Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the United Future Party, on the 30th, saying, "Focus on the Jongno election."

On the same day, Hong posted on his Facebook, "I heard that Leader Hwang said that even if an independent candidate wins, permanent admission to the party will be prohibited," adding, "It seems he still does not understand that the position of party leader is not a lifetime appointment but a fragile one, and says such things."

He said, "If you lose in the Jongno election, you will be out, and the opposition power dynamics will change," adding, "Those who betrayed the party and left during the impeachment all returned and were given preferential treatment in nominations."

He continued, "Independents are victims of reckless nominations," emphasizing, "The place you should focus on is the overthrow of the Moon Jae-in administration."

Finally, former leader Hong addressed Leader Hwang, saying, "I repeat, do not worry about independents and only think about overthrowing the Moon Jae-in administration and winning the Jongno election. It's truly pitiful," concluding his post.

Earlier, Leader Hwang said at the Central Election Countermeasures Committee meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, "Independent candidacy goes against the people's mandate and aids the Moon Jae-in administration," adding, "We have no choice but to strongly respond to independent candidacies that defy the people's mandate."

He added, "We will take strong measures such as permanently banning admission even if it requires amending the party constitution and regulations, and party members who assist independents will also face severe disciplinary actions for such conduct."
