[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Ki-dong] The number of facilities participating in 'social distancing' to prevent the spread of COVID-19 has significantly increased in Mokpo.

On the 30th, Mokpo City announced that a considerable number of facilities under intensive management have suspended operations, and those that are inevitably operating are making efforts to strictly comply with quarantine guidelines such as staff wearing masks, maintaining distance, and providing hand sanitizers.

The facilities under intensive management in the Mokpo area total 1,748 locations, including 445 religious facilities, 220 indoor sports facilities, 154 entertainment establishments, 200 karaoke rooms, 141 PC rooms, and 588 academies. The city is currently deploying all staff to inspect these facilities daily.

So far, the facilities that have closed to participate in the high-intensity social distancing include 260 religious facilities, 72 indoor sports facilities, 148 entertainment establishments, 147 karaoke rooms, 68 PC rooms, and 415 academies.

Last weekend, 23 churches replaced services with online and video worship, and some churches reduced their worship services from three times a week to once on Sunday.

The city stated that while there have been some results due to the active participation of citizens with mature awareness, this week is the most critical period for the early end of COVID-19, so they plan to tighten the implementation of high-intensity social distancing even more.

Additionally, following confirmed cases on the 24th (2 cases) and the 28th (1 case from overseas entry), contact management and quarantine measures are being thoroughly enforced to prevent further spread.

A Mokpo city official said, “Although the economic impact and citizen inconvenience are significant, strong social distancing practices are necessary for the early end of COVID-19 for the time being.”
