Mapo-gu Grants Detailed Addresses Including 'Dong, Floor, Unit' for Multi-family and Detached Houses

Mail Delivery Disruptions Hinder Rapid Police and Firefighter Response in Emergencies

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) is promoting a project to directly assign detailed addresses to multi-family and single-family houses and one-room units without detailed addresses such as building, floor, and unit number through on-site investigations.

Unlike apartments or multi-unit and row houses, which have building, floor, and unit numbers recorded in the building register, multi-family and single-family houses and one-room units sometimes lack such detailed addresses.

This issue causes disruptions in mail and parcel delivery and makes it difficult for police and fire personnel to respond quickly in emergencies.

Accordingly, Mapo-gu will operate a year-round project to assign detailed addresses ex officio after on-site investigations by responsible officials, gathering opinions and handling objections, even if owners or tenants of multi-family, single-family houses, and one-room units do not apply.

Additionally, in cooperation with the building permit department, Mapo-gu will strengthen management so that building owners clearly specify detailed addresses and apply for address assignment before applying for use approval of newly constructed one-room or multi-family houses.

Other building owners or tenants can apply for detailed address assignment anytime throughout the year by visiting the Mapo-gu Real Estate Information Division or the local community service center.

Yudonggyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Through ex officio assignment of detailed addresses, we will minimize unnecessary administrative waste and resident inconvenience and clarify the legal address system.”

Last August, Mapo-gu assigned road name addresses to 60 street vendors, including street stalls and shoe repair stands installed and operated on sidewalks with road occupancy permits, greatly improving residents’ daily lives.
