[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 30th, the People’s Party called for the dissolution of the satellite parties for proportional representation formed by the Democratic Party of Korea and the United Future Party, stating that “trick parties and disguised parties violate the constitution and destroy democracy.”

The People’s Party proportional representation candidates held a press conference at the National Assembly on the same day, saying, “The satellite proportional representation parties of the vested political forces are not democratic parties,” and “They are showing the worst of politics, demonstrating how far Korean politics can degenerate and regress.”

They said, “Trick disguised parties betray the people,” and pointed out, “The emergence of Mirae Korea Party and Deobureo Citizen Party directly denies even the minimal intent of the mixed-member proportional representation system, which is to institutionalize negotiation and compromise among parties through a multiparty system by breaking the vested cartel structure dominated by the two major parties, allowing various parties to enter the National Assembly.”

They urged, “People, please dissolve the disguised parties. They must be judged in the name of the people,” emphasizing, “The greatest political reform task in this election is to judge them.”

They also said, “We again propose relay TV debates on working National Assembly, public safety, political reform, and future strategy with all proportional representation candidates from all parliamentary parties, as suggested by Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party,” adding, “This will guarantee the people’s right to know and prevent blind elections.”
