Proportional Vote in General Election: The Citizens 29.8% · Open Democratic Party 11.7%... Democratic Supporters 'Divided' [Realmeter]

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] In a survey on the intention to vote for proportional representation in the 21st general election, the Open Democratic Party, which claims to be the "friend party (Udang)" of the Democratic Party of Korea, secured a significant number of supporters from the Together Citizens' Party, recording double-digit support rates.

According to Realmeter's survey commissioned by YTN conducted from the 23rd to the 27th, the proportional party of the Democratic Party, the Citizens' Party, recorded a support rate of 29.8%, while the proportional party of the United Future Party, the Future Korea Party, recorded 27.4%, announced on the 30th. The Citizens' Party dropped 8.2 percentage points compared to the previous week, and the Future Korea Party fell by 2.0 percentage points.

The Open Democratic Party, included in the survey for the first time, showed a support rate of 11.7%. The sharp decline in the Citizens' Party's support rate is analyzed to be due to a significant portion of its supporters moving to the Open Democratic Party.

Realmeter explained, "Among the supporters of the Democratic Party of Korea, 60% supported the Citizens' Party, while 22.3% supported the Open Democratic Party, showing a split."

The Justice Party recorded 5.9%, down 0.1 percentage points, and the People's Party dropped 1.8 percentage points to 4.3%. Other parties were surveyed below 3%.

In party support, the Democratic Party of Korea recorded a support rate of 44.6%, up 2.5 percentage points from last week's survey. On the other hand, the United Future Party fell 3.6 percentage points to 30.0%.

The Justice Party rebounded to 4.6%, up 0.9 percentage points, and the People's Party recorded 3.3%, down 0.7 percentage points. Other parties appeared in the order of Minsheng Party and Liberty Republican Party (Uri Gonghwadang) at 1.8%, Pro-Park Shin Party at 1.6%, and Minjung Party at 1.0%.

President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for state affairs rose 3.3 percentage points from the previous week to 52.6%, marking the highest figure this year. Negative evaluations fell 3.8 percentage points to 44.1%, showing a difference outside the margin of error from positive evaluations. This is the first time in 33 weeks since the first week of August last year that positive evaluations have surpassed negative evaluations outside the margin of error.

It is analyzed that the government's response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and active measures against the Telegram "Nth Room" incident have raised the approval rating.

This survey contacted 44,482 voters aged 18 and over nationwide, with a final 2,531 respondents completing the survey, recording a response rate of 5.6%. The sampling error is ±1.9 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For more details, refer to the Central Election Survey Deliberation Commission website.
