Lee Nak-yeon "Solving Local Issues Together with Candidate Lee Gang-rae"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Lee Nak-yeon, the standing election committee chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated regarding the establishment of the National Public Medical University, the biggest issue in Namwon, Jeonbuk, and the Jirisan Eco-friendly Electric Train, “If candidate Lee Gang-rae is elected, we will join forces to expedite the process and ensure the groundbreaking can take place as soon as possible.”

On the 29th, Lee Nak-yeon visited Chunhyanggol Public Market in Namwon and held a press conference, saying, “The need to expand public healthcare has been growing due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), but it has not been addressed due to opposition party obstruction,” and added, “We can no longer delay the expansion of public healthcare.”

He continued, “I believe that if the experienced and proactive candidate Lee Gang-rae is elected, progress will accelerate in the National Assembly,” emphasizing, “Once candidate Lee Gang-rae enters the National Assembly, we will work together to ensure it is handled quickly.”

In particular, he explained, “I understand that candidate Lee Gang-rae, while serving as president of Korea Expressway Corporation, closely communicated with Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Hyun-mi to help promote the Jirisan Eco-friendly Electric Train project,” and added, “Based on this experience, candidate Lee Gang-rae will be able to provide much greater assistance in advancing the project.”

Regarding independent candidates using the “Democratic Party re-entry rumor” as a key election strategy, he targeted candidate Lee Yong-ho, saying, “I understand the party has already announced several times that re-entry is not permitted,” and “Some have already applied for re-entry and were rejected during the review process, and I do not think the situation has changed.”

On the significance of this general election in Honam, he said, “Since the Moon Jae-in administration, Jeonbuk’s development, including the Saemangeum project, has accelerated, and people from Jeonbuk have been appointed to responsible government positions,” adding, “Depending on the results of this general election, it will be decided whether the success of the Moon Jae-in administration and Jeonbuk’s issues will be expedited or delayed.”

Lee’s visit that day was arranged to encourage merchants struggling due to COVID-19 and to listen to their difficulties. He said, “I thank the residents of Jeonbuk for playing a leading role in overcoming COVID-19,” and added, “I will take the election campaign process as an opportunity to overcome the national crisis and conduct the campaign quietly.”
