All 5 Contacts of a Mokpo Man in His 20s Confirmed Positive After Visiting Thailand Test Negative

[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Jo] All five people who came into contact with a man in his 20s, who was diagnosed with COVID-19 after returning from Thailand, tested negative.

According to Gwangju City and Jeonnam Province on the 29th, all five people?two family members and three friends?who had contact with A (25), classified as the 9th confirmed case in Jeonnam after testing positive for COVID-19 the previous day, tested negative in diagnostic tests.

Earlier, it was confirmed that after returning from Thailand, A not only stayed in Mokpo, Jeonnam, where he resides, but also frequented multiple crowded public places such as department stores in the Gwangju area, raising concerns about the spread of infection.

A reportedly stayed in Thailand from early January and returned to Incheon Airport on the morning of the 26th. On the day of his return, he took an express bus and arrived in Gwangju around 2:30 PM. In Gwangju, A visited a luxury brand store at Shinsegae Department Store Gwangju Branch, a hair salon in Usan-dong, Buk-gu, and a convenience store in Munheung-dong before visiting a friend’s house.

On the 27th, A visited a PC bang and a convenience store in Munheung-dong and stayed at a friend’s house before taking an express bus again at 2:45 PM to Mokpo. After arriving in Mokpo, he took a taxi home.

Immediately after returning home, A was tested at a public health center, showing a body temperature of 36.5°C with no notable symptoms. After the test, he visited a restaurant, a cafe, a PC bang, and a mart consecutively before returning home.

After being confirmed positive, A was transferred to Gangjin Medical Center. The two family members and three friends who tested negative are currently under self-quarantine.
