According to NHK and other foreign media on the 28th, 123 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Japan the previous day. This is the largest increase in the number of confirmed cases since the spread of COVID-19 infection in Japan.

Tokyo Metropolis recorded more than 40 new confirmed cases for three consecutive days. Excluding cruise ship passengers (712 people) among the confirmed cases in Japan, Tokyo Metropolis had the highest number with 299 cases, followed by Osaka Prefecture with 176, Hokkaido with 169, and Aichi Prefecture with 160.
