[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] Fifty-two confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported at Jaimiju Hospital, which shares the same building as Daesil Nursing Hospital in Daegu, where 90 confirmed cases were previously identified.
On the 27th, Kim Jong-yeon, Deputy Director of the Daegu Infectious Disease Control Support Team, stated at the regular COVID-19 response briefing, "A large number of confirmed cases have emerged at Jaimiju Hospital, which shares the same building as Daesil Nursing Hospital." He added, "There are 72 staff members and 286 patients in this building. After one person was confirmed positive, a full investigation was conducted yesterday, resulting in 51 additional confirmed cases." Among the 51 confirmed cases, 1 is a staff member and 50 are patients.
The building housing these hospitals is known to have Daesil Nursing Hospital occupying floors 3 to 7, and Jaimiju Hospital occupying floors 8 to 11.
Earlier, when a cluster infection spread at Daesil Nursing Hospital on the 19th, health authorities identified 3 symptomatic patients among those at Jaimiju Hospital. One of them was confirmed positive on the 26th. Subsequently, a full specimen test was conducted for those related to Jaimiju Hospital, confirming 52 cases.
Health authorities have implemented cohort isolation for the ward on the 9th floor where confirmed cases were found. Previously, despite the cluster infection at Daesil Nursing Hospital, health authorities initially limited the full investigation to staff members of Jaimiju Hospital.
Kim Jong-yeon, Deputy Director of the Daegu Infectious Disease Control Support Team, said, "The epidemiological investigation team is assessing the distribution of patients and evaluating future hospitalization plans and contact measures."
