In Return, Delivering Cloth Masks... Showing the Spirit of Mutual Cooperation with Sister Cities
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) Jongam-dong and Dunnae-myeon, Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon Province, have shown a heartwarming example of win-win cooperation between sister villages.
Since 2015, Dunnae-myeon, which has maintained a sister city relationship with Jongam-dong, recently faced difficulties securing sales channels for potatoes due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. In response, the Jongam-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee stepped in to help sell 200 boxes of potatoes.
Feeling the warm affection of the sister city, the Dunnae-myeon Residents' Autonomy Committee of Hoengseong-gun sent 150 handmade cotton masks and about 20 filters as a token of gratitude for the residents of Jongam-dong.
A representative from the community center stated, “The masks, which were hand-sewn by the residents of Dunnae-myeon, were delivered to the community center through the Residents' Autonomy Committee on the 23rd and will be distributed to vulnerable residents in need of masks, such as the elderly and disabled.”
Lee Byung-han, chairman of the Jongam-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee, said, “As the spread of COVID-19 continues for a long time, we hope this has helped the affected farmers even a little. Although it is a small help, it has become an example of sharing that puts neighbors in need first.”
