Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Allocates 74 Billion Won Supplementary Budget to Stabilize Livelihood Economy

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Samho) announced on the 26th that it has prepared an emergency supplementary budget of 74 billion KRW for stabilizing the people's livelihood economy and submitted it to the Gwangsan-gu Council.

The supplementary budget focuses on blocking the spread of COVID-19 and stabilizing people's livelihoods. It is intended to be used to support citizens who are experiencing difficulties due to the COVID-19 situation.

The district set three main focus areas for the supplementary budget as ▲ the combination of safety and job creation ‘Gwangsan-type New Deal Policy’ ▲ citizen protection ‘Social Distancing’ ▲ local economic boom ‘Cheer Up, Let's Go!’ to develop policies and prepare the budget plan.

Looking specifically at the supplementary budget by sector, 8 projects totaling 8.6 billion KRW were allocated for the New Deal Policy, which is the Gwangsan-type citizen allowance, including ‘Special support for social activities of elderly job participants’ 7.1 billion KRW, ‘Employment for vulnerable groups in mask production jobs’ 300 million KRW, ‘Operation of safety Gwangsan quarantine teams by region’ 290 million KRW, and ‘Operation of resource recycling coordinators’ 290 million KRW.

Furthermore, in the social distancing sector, 2 billion KRW was allocated for 26 projects including ‘Support for quarantine supplies in welfare facilities’ 150 million KRW, ‘On-site inspection of multi-use facilities’ 200 million KRW, ‘Installation of partitions in district offices and civil service centers’ 270 million KRW, and ‘Thermal detector operation service at Songjeong Station and Gwangju Airport’ 90 million KRW.

Lastly, in the local economic boom sector, 63.4 billion KRW was allocated for 119 projects including ‘Emergency livelihood support for disaster basic income households’ 23.7 billion KRW, ‘Temporary child-rearing support’ 10.7 billion KRW, ‘Temporary consumption coupon support for low-income households’ 8.2 billion KRW, ‘Support for COVID-19 hospitalized and isolated residents’ 900 million KRW, and ‘Black Week Gwangsan Festival to revitalize alleyway markets and create a boom’ 300 million KRW.

Kim Samho, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, said, “Since this supplementary budget is urgently promoted to overcome COVID-19, we will execute it quickly and efficiently so that citizens can feel its effects,” and added, “We will do our best together with citizens to revitalize the depressed local economy.”

Meanwhile, this supplementary budget is scheduled to be finally confirmed through the proposal explanation at the Gwangsan-gu Council plenary session on the 27th, followed by the Budget and Accounts Committee and plenary sessions on the 30th and 31st.
