'30th Anniversary of Korea-Mongolia Diplomatic Relations' Summit Congratulations Letter… President Moon Hopes for Development of "Comprehensive Partnership"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] President Moon Jae-in exchanged congratulatory letters on the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries on the 26th with Mongolian President Khaltma Battulga.

President Moon evaluated that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1990, the two countries have steadily developed cooperative relations in various fields such as economy, society, and culture based on firm trust and friendship over the past 30 years, stating, "Mongolia is a key partner country in our government's New Northern Policy, and I hope that through active high-level exchanges in the future, cooperation in many areas such as environment, education, and infrastructure will be strengthened, allowing the 'comprehensive partnership' between the two countries to mature further and develop in a future-oriented manner."

President Battulga assessed that South Korea and Mongolia have developed their relations into a comprehensive partnership over the past 30 years based on shared values emphasizing human rights, freedom, democracy, and market economy, and that the bonds and friendship between the peoples of the two countries have become stronger.

He also expressed gratitude for the South Korean government's continuous support for Mongolia's social and economic development and expressed his intention to participate in South Korea's New Northern Policy to develop a mutually beneficial cooperative relationship.

Furthermore, the two leaders confirmed their shared commitment in the congratulatory letters to wisely overcome the current COVID-19 situation and to promote various activities planned to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "To commemorate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, the two countries designated 2020 as the Year of Korea-Mongolia Friendship and created a joint logo for the anniversary," adding, "Through various commemorative projects, we plan to deepen and expand mutual understanding and exchanges between the peoples of the two countries."

The joint logo commemorating the 30th anniversary of Korea-Mongolia diplomatic relations harmonizes the Taegeuk pattern symbolizing the Republic of Korea and the Soyombo symbol representing Mongolia, reflecting the deep friendship, trust, and cooperation between the two countries. The Soyombo is a pictogram symbolizing Mongolia's freedom and independence.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Korea-Mongolia diplomatic relations, in addition to the two presidents, the speakers of the National Assembly, prime ministers, and foreign ministers also exchanged congratulatory letters to evaluate the achievements in the development of bilateral relations and confirm their willingness to cooperate.
