[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 25th that the agricultural machinery rental centers will begin weekend emergency duty to facilitate farmers during the peak farming season.
From next month, May 1st to June 14th, the city will deploy 22 agricultural machinery team staff at the main office located in Dongsu-dong and four branch offices (Munpyeong, Geumcheon, Nampyeong, Gongsan) to conduct emergency duty from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
At the main office, to ensure timely rice transplanting, agricultural machinery rental services will also be provided on Sundays from May 23rd until the end of the emergency duty period.
Mayor Kang In-gyu said, “This emergency duty is expected to greatly help address the shortage of rural labor caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and promote timely farming activities. We ask farmers to be aware of the advance reservation system to avoid any inconvenience in renting agricultural machinery and to return the equipment cleanly after use for the next user.”
Meanwhile, starting this month, the centers have been accepting rental reservation applications for riding rice transplanters from farmers to improve convenience and ensure systematic operations.
The city operates the largest number of agricultural machinery rental centers (7 locations) among local governments in the province and owns 1,286 units of 118 types of agricultural machinery, including excavators, fertilizer spreaders, and tractors.
