Mapo Art Center Closed from Early February... Performances, Sports, Cultural Classes All Stop... To Prevent Industry Slump and Minimize Residents' Cultural Gaps... Non-face-to-face Online Content Activated... Live Broadcasts via Mapo-gu ITV, Facebook, YouTube, and Mapo Cultural Foundation Facebook
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) announced plans to provide non-face-to-face online cultural content and audience-free performance services to residents in order to minimize the cultural service gap caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The Mapo Art Center, operated by the Mapo Cultural Foundation, has been closed since February 5 due to the spread of COVID-19. As a result, not only professional art performances but also community sports and cultural classes enjoyed by residents have all been suspended.
The district judged that if the supply and demand gap in the local culture and arts sector continues for a long time, it could lead to an overall industry downturn and worsening conditions for related workers. As a countermeasure, starting from the end of March, it will provide cultural service content through non-face-to-face online methods.
To this end, various open-source contents in the fields of performance, exhibition, sports, and general knowledge will be organized into programs and provided once a week starting from the 27th through the Mapo Art Center website, Facebook, Kakao Plus, and other platforms. These contents will continue until the reopening of the Mapo Art Center and will be available free of charge to everyone.
Additionally, on the 31st, a special performance titled 'World Music and Dance 1 - Tango Edition All That Tango' will be held as an audience-free performance at the Mapo Art Center PlayMAC and will be broadcast live on Mapo-gu ITV, Facebook, YouTube, and the Mapo Cultural Foundation Facebook page.
The broadcast will also be viewable at public facilities, financial institutions, hospitals, and other locations through a total of 89 IPTV devices installed in the region.
The performance will feature the domestic tango orchestra ‘Tierra’, tango dancers ‘Odile & Jose Luis’, and Argentine dancers ‘Pelin & Miguel’, who will present high-quality authentic tango music and dance to viewers at home.
Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has made it difficult not only for workers in the culture and arts industry but also for residents who usually enjoy these activities as hobbies or lifelong learning. We will continue to provide related content to support the industry and residents.”
