Seodaemun-gu Supports Transportation Cards for Residents Aged 70 and Over Who Return Their Driver's Licenses

Seodaemun-gu Supports Transportation Cards for Residents Aged 70 and Over Who Return Their Driver's Licenses

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) announced that it will provide a 100,000 KRW transportation card once to residents aged 70 or older (born on or before December 31, 1950) who voluntarily return their driver's licenses by the end of this year.

Earlier, as part of establishing a safe traffic culture, the district enacted the "Seodaemun-gu Ordinance on Preventing Traffic Accidents Involving Elderly Drivers" in July last year.

To reduce traffic accidents involving elderly citizens due to population aging, the district first implemented this project in September last year and received a favorable response, closing early within about two months.

As of the end of last month, among the 36,854 residents aged 70 or older in Seodaemun-gu, 31.3%, or 11,551 people, hold driver's licenses.

Residents who wish to participate can visit the civil service office on the first floor of Seodaemun-gu Office directly on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m. to return their driver's licenses. The Seoul Western Driver's License Examination Office staff will come to the district office to process the applications.

After voluntarily returning the license and the cancellation (revocation) decision is made, a transportation card and a driver's license graduation certificate will be issued, which is expected to take about one month.

The transportation card can be collected at either the district office civil service office or the local community service center at the resident's convenience.

Mayor Moon Seok-jin of Seodaemun-gu stated, "We will continue to make efforts to create a safe traffic environment and reduce traffic accidents involving elderly drivers."
