[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education, which introduced administrative liability insurance nationwide for the first time last year, announced on the 16th that it will expand the coverage this year to provide benefits to more people.
The Office of Education stated that it will expand the scope of administrative liability insurance, which compensates a certain amount when public officials face liability claims during the performance of their duties.
Previously covering about 3,200 people including local public officials, professionals, and dispatched teachers, starting this year, private school administrative staff and administrative personnel at lifelong education facilities recognized for academic credit have been added, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to about 3,500.
Administrative liability insurance is a policy that covers legal costs and other expenses when claims for compensation arise due to accidental incidents or accidents occurring during work, or due to negligence or fault in the course of duties.
The coverage amount includes attorney fees paid by the insured, litigation procedure costs, and expenses related to settlement, arbitration, or mediation. The insurance premium of 29.29 million won is fully borne by the Office of Education.
The coverage limit is up to 1 billion won annually, with a maximum of 200 million won per incident. For administrative defense costs, compensation is provided up to 10 million won annually, with a maximum of 5 million won per incident.
Superintendent Do Seong-hoon said, "With the enrollment in administrative liability insurance, public officials can be protected from unexpected incidents or accidents that may occur while diligently performing their duties," adding, "We will continue to support our staff so that they can perform their duties actively and voluntarily."
