[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seul-gi] A branch of Hana Tour, a major domestic travel agency, sparked controversy for using a derogatory expression about President Moon Jae-in in a notice announcing remote work due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). On the 13th, Hana Tour stated that the branch in question is unrelated to them but announced they would "terminate the contract."
On the same day, a photo of a notice posted above the entrance of the Hana Tour Yeoksam Emart branch was shared on online communities, causing controversy.
The photo showed a notice that read, "Due to Moon Jae-ang COVID, we will be working from home for the time being."
'Moon Jae-ang' is a term used to criticize President Moon Jae-in, meaning "a disaster caused by Moon Jae-in," commonly used on sites like Ilgan Best Storage.
Hana Tour explained, "The travel agency in question is not a directly operated branch but a sales agency that sells our travel products, and it is a separate company," emphasizing that it is unrelated to them.
However, Hana Tour added, "The post was written by the representative of the sales agency, and after confirming the content, Hana Tour immediately issued a warning to the sales agency and had the notice removed."
They further stated, "The post violates the contract with Hana Tour and damages the Hana Tour brand. We will proceed with contract termination of the sales agency and take legal action."
