[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] Boeing's 'Advanced F-15' fighter jet video has been revealed for the first time in Korea. The Advanced F-15 is the next version of the F-15 fighter jet, the mainstay of the Air Force.
On the 14th, the Advanced F-15 shown in the video is equipped with the Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) APG-82(V)1 radar, and a digital electronic warfare system (DEWS) that accurately detects enemy threats, issues warnings, and conducts jamming operations. In particular, the mission computer, considered the brain of the fighter jet, is also known to have significantly enhanced capabilities.
As voices have grown stronger for the Republic of Korea Air Force to actively reflect the F-15K upgrade project in the mid-term defense plan, the Ministry of National Defense included it in the 2020?2024 mid-term defense plan announced last year. This is because neighboring countries such as Russia have deployed the latest fighter jet Su-35S in the Northeast Asia region, and Japan continues to upgrade the Air Self-Defense Force's F-15J fighter jets.
In 2013, Boeing also expressed the opinion that it would be good for the Republic of Korea Air Force to purchase the Advanced F-15 fighter jet along with the competitor Lockheed Martin's F-35A fighter jet when participating in the next fighter jet (F-X) project. They even proposed a specific plan to purchase 40 Advanced F-15s and 20 F-35As out of the total 60 units planned for purchase under the F-X project.
The Advanced F-15 belongs to the F-15 family, like the F-15SE (Silent Eagle), and there is little difference in most performance aspects such as radar and electronic warfare systems. However, to enhance stealth performance, it does not have the internal weapons bay installed on the F-15SE. At that time, Boeing explained, "The Advanced F-15 is a model without the stealth concept, which reduces development costs compared to the Silent Eagle."
