[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] The team behind 'Workman' has explained that they were unaware that the Ilbe term 'Nomo' was being used for political purposes after causing controversy by using it as a subtitle.
On the 12th, the Workman team stated through their community channel, "The subtitle 'Nomo' (勞務), which caused issues in the side job episode, was intended to convey the dictionary meaning of 'work-related tasks.' We were completely unaware that this term was being used for political purposes in a specific community."
They continued, "However, we acknowledge that not knowing the problematic nature of the content was also a fault of the production team. We apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable because of this."
Additionally, the Workman team said, "We will correct the problematic parts in the side job episode and re-upload it," adding, "We will also approach production with greater caution to prevent similar issues from occurring again."
Workman became embroiled in controversy after using a term from Ilgan Best (Ilbe) as a subtitle in the 'Side Job' episode released on the 11th.
During the part where cast members Jang Sungkyu and Kim Mina were folding pizza boxes as a part-time job, the subtitle "Starting 18 Nomo (勞務)" appeared. Some netizens pointed out that the term 'Nomo' is used on Ilbe to disparage former President Roh Moo-hyun.
Workman had previously sparked controversy by using the Ilbe term 'No Alarm' in their 'Rewind 2019' video.
