On the 9th, Park Jaehyun (pseudonym, 14) and his mother, who live in Huam-dong, Yongsan-gu, visited the Huam-dong Community Service Center. Meeting with the local social worker, Park took out five 10,000-won bills and two bundles of coins wrapped in plastic. The total amount was 135,110 won.
Initially, Park wanted to deliver masks to neighbors in need. However, since he could not obtain the items, he decided to donate money to the district office. The district sent the money to the Yongsan Welfare Foundation, and the district mayor is scheduled to meet Park soon to present a certificate of appreciation.
Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) continues to receive warm support from various sectors wishing to overcome COVID-19.
On the 27th of last month, Restec (CEO Park Gawon) donated 3,000 protective masks to the Yongsan Welfare Foundation to support vulnerable groups. The foundation distributed the items to 10 institutions, including local children's centers.
The Yongsan-gu Medical Association (President Kim Wongon) has been assisting the district's screening clinics since the 2nd. Private practitioners affiliated with the association take turns daily, each working one evening shift to provide care for suspected patients, collect specimens, and conduct epidemiological investigations.
The Yongsan-gu Korean Medicine Association (President Kim Hoseon) delivered 500 packets of fatigue recovery tonic (Ssanghwatang) to the district's Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the 4th. President Kim said, "We prepared these supplies for the district officials who are working tirelessly 24 hours a day to prevent COVID-19."
OfficeMeca (CEO Kim Seojin) pledged on the 5th to support the Yongsan Welfare Foundation with daily necessities worth 12 million won. The support will be provided in four installments of 3 million won each quarter. The first donated items, hand sanitizers and wet wipes, were distributed to low-income households, including elderly people living alone.
The Ichon 1-dong Community Security Council (Chairman Ko Jaeshin) donated 5,600 KF94 masks to the Yongsan Welfare Foundation on the 9th. The donation aims to support low-income and disabled residents in the area who have difficulty obtaining supplies at pharmacies.
Weihai City, China (Mayor Zhang Haibo) also sent 15,000 health masks to the district on the 9th. Yongsan-gu and Weihai City signed a sister city agreement in 2007 and have maintained exchanges through mutual delegation visits.
Ssangbangwool (CEO Bang Yongchul) and Namyoung Vivian (CEO Lee Kyuhwa) also contributed. On the 11th, they donated 10,000 masks and 1,000 pairs of socks to Yongsan-gu. Recently, Ssangbangwool and Namyoung Vivian also donated 100,000 masks to the Daegu area, attracting attention.
Itaewon Club Owlounge (CEO Lee Sangyeop) delivered 2,000 KF94 masks to the district office on the 12th. Owlounge, which recently celebrated its 7th anniversary, voluntarily suspended club operations to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, "Regardless of individuals, organizations, or groups, many people are sincerely contributing to overcoming COVID-19," adding, "COVID-19 will never be able to defeat Korea."
As of the 12th, there are 2 confirmed cases and 26 people in self-quarantine in Yongsan-gu.
