Kindergarten Increased 1.58 Times and Elementary School 2.96 Times in 8 Days
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] As the delay in the reopening of kindergartens and elementary schools due to 'COVID-19' prolongs, applications for emergency childcare have surged significantly.
According to the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education on the 10th, the number of young children and students participating in emergency childcare in the district has increased by 1.58 times in kindergartens and 2.96 times in elementary schools compared to the early stages of emergency childcare.
In particular, by extending the emergency childcare closing time from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the city education office providing meal and snack expenses, the number of young children and students participating in emergency childcare is showing a sharp increase.
In kindergartens, on the 2nd, when emergency childcare was first implemented due to the delay in school reopening, 590 classes of emergency childcare were operated at 284 public and private kindergartens, with 2,771 young children participating.

A representative of the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education said, “By extending the emergency childcare closing time by 2 hours and providing meal and snack expenses to young children and students receiving emergency childcare, the number of applicants has greatly increased,” adding, “The city education office will always prioritize the health and happiness of young children and students and continue to provide emergency childcare services.”
