KT Launches Sign Language Video Call Service for the Deaf

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT is launching the ‘Nareul (Nareul) Sign Language Video Call’ service, which helps hearing-impaired individuals communicate using sign language through a 5G video call app.

According to KT on the 9th, ‘Nareul Sign Language Video Call’ is a service introduced through a partnership between the Korea Association of the Deaf and KT. It provides dedicated data so that hearing-impaired users can communicate smoothly using KT’s 5G video call service ‘Nareul.’ Hearing-impaired users on KT’s mobile phone plans will receive 2GB of dedicated Nareul data daily for free without any special application process.

To use Nareul video calls, users can freely download and sign up anytime and anywhere from the Apple App Store, Google Play, or One Store regardless of their carrier. The dedicated data benefit is only available to KT mobile phone plan users registered as hearing-impaired. Lee Seong-hwan, Executive Director of KT’s 5G/GiGA Business Division, stated, “We expect that hearing-impaired users will be able to resolve inconveniences in using communication services by utilizing Nareul Sign Language Video Calls,” and added, “We will strive to help customers enjoy a better life through warm innovative services based on 5G.”
