[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] On the 8th, the Democratic Party of Korea decided to nominate 30 incumbent lawmakers running in the Seoul metropolitan area for the April 15 general election as single candidates in their current constituencies. Additionally, for two newly redistricted constituencies in Gangwon Province due to electoral boundary adjustments, the party decided to hold primary elections.
The Democratic Party's Nomination Management Committee made this decision after reviewing the candidates for the general election constituencies on the same day.
First, in Seoul, Hong Ik-pyo, who recently resigned from his position as chief spokesperson following controversy over his 'Daegu lockdown' remarks, was nominated as the single candidate for Jung-Seongdong Gap. Floor leader Lee In-young was nominated for Guro Gap, and Park Ju-min was nominated for Eunpyeong Gap.
In addition, incumbent lawmakers were nominated in Seoul constituencies including ▲ An Gyu-baek in Dongdaemun Gap ▲ Park Hong-geun in Jungnang Eul ▲ Ki Dong-min in Seongbuk Eul ▲ Park Yong-jin in Gangbuk ▲ In Jae-geun in Dobong Gap ▲ Woo Won-shik in Nowon ▲ Kim Seong-hwan in Nowon Byeong ▲ Woo Sang-ho in Seodaemun Gap ▲ Kim Young-ho in Seodaemun Eul ▲ Han Jeong-ae in Gangseo Byeong ▲ and Kim Young-joo in Yeongdeungpo Gap.
In Incheon, Hong Young-pyo was nominated for Bupyeong Eul, and Song Young-gil for Gyeyang Eul. Shin Dong-geun and Song Gap-seok will compete in the general election in Seo Eul and Seo Gap, respectively.
In Gyeonggi Province, Kim Jin-pyo was nominated for Suwon Mu, securing an opportunity to run for a fifth term. Pro-Moon Jae-in faction core member Jeon Hae-cheol was nominated as the single candidate for Ansan Sangnok Gap, and Democratic Party Secretary-General Yoon Ho-jung was also nominated as the single candidate in Guri.
Other incumbent lawmakers nominated in Gyeonggi include ▲ Baek Hye-ryun in Suwon Eul ▲ Kim Young-jin in Suwon Byeong ▲ Park Kwang-on in Suwon Jeong ▲ Kim Tae-nyeon in Seongnam Sujeong ▲ Kim Kyung-hyeop in Bucheon Wonmi Gap ▲ Kim Cheol-min in Ansan Sangnok Eul ▲ An Min-seok in Osan ▲ Lee Won-wook in Hwaseong ▲ and Kwon Chil-seung in Hwaseong Byeong.
The Democratic Party's Nomination Committee also decided to hold primaries between preliminary candidates Jeon Seong and Jeong Man-ho in the newly redistricted Gangwon constituencies of Chuncheon, Cheorwon, Hwacheon, and Yanggu Eul. In the Sokcho, Inje, Goseong, and Yangyang area, three preliminary candidates?Park Sang-jin, Lee Dong-gi, and Choi Sang-yong?will compete in a primary election.
