According to the fire authorities, the Gangdong Fire Station in Seoul received a report of a fire at a commercial-residential building in Godeok-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, around 3 p.m. that day and extinguished the fire within about 20 minutes after dispatching.
As a result of the fire, a 4-year-old boy inside the building died. A 4-year-old girl and a 7-year-old girl suffered second to third-degree burns over their bodies and were taken to a nearby hospital but passed away. It was reported that no adults were present in the house at the time of the fire, only the children. They were cousins who had visited their maternal grandmother's house following their mother.
At the fire scene, 23 fire trucks and 84 firefighters were dispatched to carry out firefighting operations. The police and fire authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and the cause of death.
