[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Microdigital announced on the 3rd that it is developing a 3rd generation precision point-of-care testing (POCT) equipment system capable of infectious disease testing within 30 minutes.
A Microdigital official explained, "The diagnostic system capable of testing within 30 minutes has currently completed development," adding, "It will take some time before it is applied on-site."
Microdigital is a company listed on KOSDAQ as a technology-specialized firm since June 2019. Based on optical and engineering technologies, it expanded its technology into biomarkers (diagnostic reagents) and entered the precision medicine market. Its main business areas include 3rd generation precision POCT systems, automated immunoassay systems, and bioanalysis systems.
Additionally, Microdigital possesses a fully automated immunodiagnostic system (diamond) capable of diagnosing 80 people simultaneously. This system can perform optical measurements of samples and reagents with a single button press. It is applicable not only to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) but also to various other viruses. A company representative stated, "Our products are applicable not only to coronavirus but also to similar viral diseases," and added, "What differentiates our company’s products is that they are based on an open platform, making them applicable not only to COVID-19 but also to new virus variants."
Along with this, the company holds a disposable cell culture system. The company explained that it can be used for culturing vaccines and therapeutics. The official said, "What is necessary to produce vaccines is cell culture," and added, "We are the only company in Korea capable of this."
Kim Kyungnam, CEO of Microdigital, emphasized, "Microdigital’s analysis and in vitro diagnostic technologies are already in technological cooperation with leading domestic bio conglomerates, and there are many products under joint development," adding, "Our diagnostic equipment is technologically advanced equipment that can be sold worldwide in the future."
