[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) will conduct joint disinfection of religious facilities within Seongbuk-gu by civilians, government, and military starting from the 2nd to prevent the local spread of COVID-19.
Amid growing concerns over community transmission due to the recent sharp increase in COVID-19 confirmed cases, Seongbuk-gu is the first district in Seoul to decide to carry out focused disinfection of religious facilities with residents, public health center and community service center officials, and army soldiers together.
The disinfection team, formed with soldiers from the Yongma Unit of the 56th Infantry Division under the Capital Defense Command, will be organized into two groups and disinfect religious facilities in the area from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On the first day, the 2nd, disinfection will be carried out at religious facilities and related educational facilities in Dongseon-dong, Wolgok 2-dong, and Seokgwan-dong, with plans to disinfect a total of 19 facilities over three days starting from the 2nd.
Recently, the Seongbuk-gu Church Association resolved to suspend all gatherings for two weeks and conduct online (video) worship services to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Additionally, the Catholic Church and Jogye Order are also actively cooperating in efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by suspending gatherings.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, expressed gratitude, saying, “I appreciate the decision of civilians, government, and military to unite and carry out disinfection work to overcome COVID-19 during these difficult times.” He added, “The district office will deploy its full capacity to ensure safety, and residents are urged to strictly follow personal hygiene rules and practice social distancing.”
