Jungnang Haengbok Farm Garden Plot Leasing

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will lease out garden plots at Jungnang Happy Farm located in Sinnae-dong to 130 households starting from the 4th.

Jungnang-gu residents who wish to lease a plot can apply on the Jungnang-gu Office website by the 10th. If there are many applicants, a computerized lottery will be held, and each household will be allocated one plot (6.6㎡, approximately 2 pyeong). The plots can be freely used from April to November. By paying an annual lease fee of 30,000 KRW, various crop seedlings and compost will be provided, and farming tools can also be rented.

Jungnang-gu declared 2019 as the "Year of Urban Agriculture," established an Urban Agriculture Team in January, and opened the Jungnang Happy Farm in Sinnae-dong in March, covering approximately 3,461㎡. Out of a total of 170 plots, 130 were leased to residents, recording a competitive application rate of 3 to 1, receiving positive responses. The remaining 40 plots are used as experience spaces.

In addition to weekend garden plots, Jungnang Happy Farm features a 240㎡ strawberry experience greenhouse. In June and July last year, strawberry tasting and garden experience programs were conducted for 345 children from 15 local daycare centers and kindergartens, providing children with opportunities to experience eco-friendly food and nature within the city.

Also, in October last year, a smart farm facility controllable via computer and smartphone was established in the strawberry experience greenhouse, laying the foundation for urban agriculture using advanced technology.

Following the existing site in Sinnae-dong, Jungnang Happy Farm 2 will be developed in the second half of this year on a 6,419㎡ site in Mangwoo-dong to further promote urban agriculture.

Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu said, "Last year laid the foundation for establishing urban agriculture in Jungnang-gu as the Year of Urban Agriculture. This year will be a leap forward for Jungnang-gu’s urban agriculture, including hosting the Seoul Urban Agriculture Expo in May. We hope residents gain vitality in their daily lives through Jungnang Happy Farm."
