4 More COVID-19 Cases Confirmed in Gangnam-gu, Total Now 7 (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the afternoon of the 28th, Jung Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, announced, "Today, an additional 4 cases have been confirmed, including a 28-year-old woman from an apartment in Gaepo-dong, Gangnam-gu, who was reported by Jongno-gu Public Health Center the previous day, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Gangnam-gu to 7."

He added, "Among them, 3 are actual residents of Gangnam, and the remaining 4 are one each from Gwanak-gu in Seoul, Seongnam-si in Gyeonggi Province, Yangpyeong-gun in Gyeonggi Province, and Daegu."

Among the confirmed cases announced that day, a 36-year-old woman living in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, is presumed to have been infected as she lives in the same villa as a 27-year-old male confirmed case identified on the 26th. A 34-year-old man from an apartment in Gaepo-dong is presumed to have been infected by his wife, a female confirmed case transferred from Jongno-gu Public Health Center on the 27th, as he is her husband.

A 36-year-old man living in Bongcheon-dong, Gwanak-gu, works on Teheran-ro in Gangnam-gu. He was tested at the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center screening clinic on the morning of the 27th and confirmed positive. According to the movement investigation, it is presumed he was infected with COVID-19 after visiting a junior colleague hospitalized at Catholic University Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital in Eunpyeong-gu on the afternoon of the 22nd, where he had contact with the junior outside the hospital for about an hour.

Also, a 35-year-old man living in a villa in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, working as a PD at a video production company, has no clear infection route identified from the first movement check. However, it is presumed he was infected through contact with various people due to the nature of his job as a PD.

Mayor Jung stated, "Immediately after the first confirmed case occurred on the 26th, Gangnam-gu proactively conducted screening tests at the screening clinic for 170 residents of Apgujeong-dong and Gaepo-dong apartments and villa residents in Nonhyeon-dong, as well as 4 people including gym trainers and members. Among them, the husband of the female confirmed case from the Gaepo-dong apartment and a female villa resident were found to be positive."

Gangnam-gu promptly notified the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and Seoul City of the additional confirmed cases and is preparing to transfer the 4 confirmed patients to isolation beds this afternoon.

To prevent the local spread of COVID-19, Gangnam-gu voluntarily closed two company offices and a studio included in the confirmed patients' movement paths. Approximately 310 close contacts, including colleagues, were placed under self-quarantine and instructed to undergo specimen testing at nearby public health center screening clinics.

Additionally, first-round disinfection was carried out at 20 locations including markets, restaurants, coffee shops, tailor shops, and gyms visited by the confirmed patients.

Gangnam-gu announced that to minimize local spread, it will proactively conduct screening tests for residents of apartments and villas where confirmed patients live, disclose more detailed movement paths of confirmed patients to residents, and take necessary measures such as second-round disinfection.

Mayor Jung Soon-gyun said, "Gangnam-gu is making every effort to minimize the local spread of COVID-19 and protect the health of residents by taking proactive measures. We ask residents to trust Gangnam-gu, avoid unnecessary anxiety, and actively protect their own health and safety."

He concluded, "Please refrain from traveling to COVID-19 outbreak areas as much as possible, and strictly follow personal hygiene rules such as wearing masks and washing hands before and after going out."
